Salida Water Fest
The third annual Salida Water Fest will be held on Aug. 25 in Salida and Aug. 26 in Buena Vista in conjunction with the Foodshed Alliance.
The family-focused festival will include exhibits, fun activities and demonstrations related to various aspects of water use, including agricultural, municipal, environmental and recreational uses.
Chelsey Nutter, projects manager for the Upper Arkansas Conservancy District says, “our annual Water Fest event is a great opportunity for children and their parents to learn about our local water resources in a fun and interactive way. The more we all understand about our water the better we will be at making informed decisions in the future.”
The water festivals will be held in conjunction with the Salida Farmers Market at Alpine Park on Saturday, Aug. 25 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and on Aug. 26 at the Buena Vista Farmers Market on South Main Square from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Displays and demonstrations will encompass source water protection, watershed health, plant water usage, river health, agricultural water usage, water storage, water rights and much more. A fun and interactive scavenger hunt will be ongoing throughout the day. Participants who finish will receive free prizes.
Festival participants will include representatives from the Upper Arkansas Water Conservancy District, Cañon City Water Department, Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment, City of Cañon City, the Greater Arkansas River Nature Association, the Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area, Chaffee County Oral Health Program, Central Colorado Conservancy, Guidestone and Foodshed Alliance.
Sponsored by the Upper Arkansas Water Conservancy District, the Water Fest is free and open to the public.
